Many personal trainers equate their income with their hours spent training clients. While this makes sense, there are only so many hours a day that you can train clients. So this means that your income is limited by the hours in a day, right? Wrong. Two of the key strategies to building a successful personal training business are to boost what you earn per hour, and to develop passive income.

How do you boost your income per hour?

  • The most obvious answer here is to charge more for each training session. Most personal trainers are afraid that if they charge more, they will lose clients. The reality is that if you are offering outstanding service and your clients are seeing the results and achieving their goals, they will be prepared to pay more.
  • Start group training sessions. You will receive payments from several clients for the same hour in your schedule. Although each client will pay less than they would for a one-on-one session, the total that you will earn for an hour will be far more.
  • Give seminars. Focus on common queries that pop up during sessions, in emails and on your website. Advertise the topic of your seminar in advance to ensure a big audience who will pay to listen to your expert ideas, opinions and answers.

Passive income refers to money that you earn with little effort and minimal time. In other words, it involves developing revenue streams that create an income, without you having to sell your hours. So how can a personal trainer develop passive income?

  • Some personal trainers choose to sell supplements and other nutritional products where they can earn a commission to boost their income. Remember that your client base is a captive audience who is likely to follow your advice when it comes to diet and nutrition.
  • Another option is to sell fitness equipment and products. You can either sell these directly to your clients or advertise on your website and sell online.
  • Develop and sell informational CDs and DVDs based on your seminars and other popular topics. These types of resources are becoming more and more popular with the general public and good resources are guaranteed to sell well.
  • Develop your own fitness equipment or product that can be sold online or in gyms. Remember that you are the expert when it comes to your line of work and people will trust what you recommend and develop.
  • Write a book, quick start guide or e-book related to your specific interests when it comes to exercise, fitness, etc. Many people are looking for quick exercise guides that target a particular problem. Developing a series of guides with effective exercise programs is a great way to earn a passive income.
